Frequently asked questions

By ferry from the port of Ibiza to the port of La Savina, as Formentera has no airport. The route is currently served by Baleària, Trasmapi, Aquabus and Formentera Lines, with sailings every day of the year and many more in summer. Find out more in our guide how to get from Ibiza to Formentera. When you arrive in La Savina, our base is right there in the port, so you can start your day on a boat.

About 30-35 minutes on a fast ferry; Turismo de Formentera (the island’s tourist board) gives around 35 minutes between the port of Ibiza and La Savina. Conventional ferries, such as Baleària’s vehicle ferries, take about an hour. It’s such a short crossing that you can easily go there and back in a day. And if you arrive in the morning, you can hop on one of our boats in La Savina and see the island from the sea.

As a rough guide, a single ticket on a fast ferry usually costs between €30 and €35, with promotional fares from around €9.50. Prices vary by ferry company, sailing time and season. From June to September it’s best to book ahead, as the ferries fill up. And while you’re planning, book your boat too: we’ll be waiting for you in the same port of La Savina.

Yes, on Baleària’s conventional ferries and on some Trasmapi catamarans. From 1 June to 30 September you’ll also need prior authorisation at formentera.eco, as the entry and use of all motor vehicles on the island is regulated. That’s why many visitors find it easier to get around by bike and bus, as Turismo de Formentera recommends. And for the coves, the best way to get there is by boat from La Savina.

To make the most of the sea, June to September: in neighbouring Ibiza, average highs range from about 27 °C in June to 30 °C in August, with very little rain (AEMET, the Spanish Met Office). May and October are milder, with highs of 23-24 °C. Demand is high from June to September, so book your ferry and boat in advance. Find out more about the weather in Formentera.

The easiest way is by bike and public bus: the island is flat and distances are short. The bus is handy for longer journeys, such as going up to La Mola. In summer, the use of motor vehicles is regulated, so check the rules before hiring or bringing a car. And to reach the coves, take a boat. We explain it all in how to get around Formentera.

The must-sees are ses Illetes, Llevant, cala Saona, Migjorn and the Caló des Mort, plus the beach at es Pujols. Many are even better from the sea: you anchor nearby, swim in turquoise water and move on to another cove whenever you like. Take a look at our pick of the best coves in Formentera.

Yes, you can visit it, and the easiest way is by boat. It’s a privately owned islet to the north of Formentera, within the ses Salines Natural Park. There are mooring buoys in the bay of s’Alga, and anchoring on posidonia seagrass is prohibited. Mud baths in its lagoon are banned and carry fines. Wading across es Trocadors is not advisable because of the currents. More in our guide to s’Espalmador.

Yes: since 1 October 2026 (Real Decreto 1188/2025, a Spanish Royal Decree), anyone in charge of a hire boat must hold a boating licence. With us you have two options: boats to skipper yourself with your licence, such as the Licencia de Navegación (Spain’s basic boating licence: boats up to 6 m, within 2 miles of a port or shelter), or skippered boats, for which you don’t need any licence at all. Ask us which licence each boat requires.

It depends on the boat, so check its details page or ask us before you book. For example, on day charters the Beneteau 473 Oceanis includes a skipper, diesel, insurance for the boat and passengers, a paddleboard and snorkelling gear. If you’re skippering yourself, bring your boating licence. And don’t forget sun cream, a towel, a cap, shoes that can get wet and a sweatshirt in the cooler months.

At the port of La Savina, at our base on Av. Mediterrània, 80. It’s the same port where the ferries from Ibiza arrive, so it’s right on hand as soon as you reach the island. The office is open Monday to Sunday, 10:00 to 19:00. If you have any questions about the meeting point or time, email us at reservas@islazulformentera.com. More about the area in the port of La Savina.

No. In the Balearic Islands anchoring on posidonia seagrass is prohibited (Decreto 25/2018, a Balearic decree): only drop anchor on sand or use the designated buoys, such as those at s’Alga in s’Espalmador or south of Caló de s’Oli. Protecting it helps preserve the island’s seabed. We tell you more in posidonia in Formentera.
